COMPOSERS and musicians from the Faculty of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong have been invited to take part in the 16th Annual Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival in the United States later this month.

It will be the first time an Australian university has been invited to feature at the festival.

The annual three-day event combines an international selection of of electroacoustic music and musicians, allowing them to exchange ideas and experience a range of cutting-edge music from contemporary composers.

The program for this year's festival will include compositions from acting head of the School of Music and Drama at UOW Houston Dunleavy, a performance by lecturer in voice Lotte Latukefu, and compositions by associate professors Greg Schiemer and Stephen Ingham and postgraduate students Terumi Narushima, Warren Burt and Wendy Suiter.

Dr Dunleavy, who has also worked in the US, Scotland and France, selected the music for this year's festival and flew to Florida last Saturday.

"This is a very exciting opportunity," Dr Dunleavy said. "This is one of the most important festivals of its kind ... and it's a tribute to the staff and postgraduates that we have been invited to attend."
